You’re this close to finally moving into your starter, custom-built dream home. But, as excited as you may be, it pays to keep your head during the final walkthrough. Here are a few items to keep an eye on during your last inspection.
The foundation. The area around the foundation should slant away from the house to prevent water from leaking into it.
The roof. Not every new homeowner is comfortable going up on the roof, but it pays to have you or a friend to inspect the shingles. They should be tight against the roof’s frame, with no cracked or broken ones in sight.
The landscaping. If any landscaping was included in the price of the home, make sure it was all done according to plan.
Windows, doors and vents. Every potential entryway to the house should be sealed, with weather stripping for a tight fit. They should also open and close easily, with no loose or broken glass.
Painting. Both on the home’s exterior and interior, painting should be uniform in color and texture, with no unpainted patches that the builder forgot.
