Deciding to build your dream home is an exciting time. It may be an event on which you have focused much time, resources and emotion. Now that you are ready to move forward, who’s going to help you? Choosing a builder to work with is a big decision. It’s important to choose someone that you are comfortable with but also has the experience and resources necessary to follow through in every stage of the process. Start with a notebook or some type of note taking application. Keep notes about pricing, time structure, process, etc., so that you can reflect upon meetings and see the overall picture as it is presented to you. As you search and interview builders for the job, here are some questions to keep in mind.

• Is your company insured or bonded?
• What would the timeline look like for this construction?
• What is your process for making homes energy efficient?
• How many homes have you built? How long have you been in the building industry?
• What types of features are standard in your homes? Do you have model homes available to look at?
• What is your process for any changes that may occur during the construction process?
• How often will I be able to view the construction of the home?
• What is your preferred means of communication?
• Do you have any previous clients that we could speak to about their experience?
• Who performs the final inspection for the home?
