Moving to a smaller home

13141667 - senior woman holding a small house in her hands

Maybe the kids are gone, and you don’t have any use for their old bedrooms. Maybe you’re tired of mowing a lawn the size of a football field. Or maybe you just got your latest property tax bill and thought, “do we really need all this space?” Regardless of the reason why, you’ve decided to downsize. Here’s what you need to know:

You really don’t need all that stuff

Although it may seem hard to part with a lot of your things, you’ll be surprised how little you actually need as opposed to want. It may help to give cherished items to close friends or family members as opposed to donating or selling them. And once you’ve done without all those things for a while, you’ll come to realize how freeing it can be to do more with less!

Get ready for serious bonding

Since your space will be smaller, you’ll be spending a lot more time together with any loved ones who are downsizing with you. Get ready for some serious bonding, because at first, you’ll seem to be on top of each other all the time. However, after a while, you may find yourselves relating better than you ever have!

So if having to look after fewer material possessions–while enjoying quality time with those you care about–sounds enticing, downsizing to a smaller home may be for you!
